    Welcome

    Arc Northern Shenandoah Valley

The Arc/NSV is a local chapter of The Arc of Virginia and The Arc of the United States, membership organizations made up of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families, friends, interested citizens and professionals.

Founded locally in 1967, The Arc/NSV values the dignity and worth of all people.  Members believe that if all citizens were accepted and had the supports and services they needed to exercise control over their lives, then communities as a whole would be deeply enriched.  We strive to increase community inclusion for all.

The Arc/NSV strives to provide services including:

    • Individual and systems advocacy, including frequent updates on disability related policy issues
    • Camp scholarships for adults and children with   special needs
    • Informational newsletters
    • “Kids on the Block” public awareness program
    • Trainings and conferences on topics of interest to the community
    • Informational fairs, including summer recreational opportunities for children and adults with special needs
    • Social opportunities including bowling, dances, picnics, pool parties, volunteering and holiday gatherings
    • Information and resource referral to parents and community members as a whole
